| Abstract | This indicator is derived from the European Commission, Joint Research Centre's global, multi-annual database of satellite-measured values of Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR). FAPAR is a bio-geophysical variable that measures the fraction of incident solar radiation that is absorbed by land vegetation for photosynthesis. High FAPAR values are associated with favourable conditions for vegetation growth, while low FAPAR values are associated with stress and disturbance. The FAPAR datasets were derived from SeaWiFS (NASA) and MODIS (NASA) satellite images from 2003 to 2014, using the algorithms described by Pinty et al. (2011). |
